Meeting of milk processors in Veliko Tarnovo

The Ukrainian association of milk processors intends to double the import of its raw materials to the Bulgarian market. This became clear at the first meeting of the branch organization with the Bulgarian Association of Milk Processors, which took place in Veliko Tarnovo.
Next month there will be an online meeting between the new acting Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Georgi Takhov and his Ukrainian colleague Mykola Solski.
The two industry associations are meeting for the first time, and the intention is for bilateral cooperation to increase imports of Ukrainian raw, dry and condensed milk, which are cheaper.
On the Bulgarian market, even now, Ukrainian imports of raw materials are made from enterprises that have been inspected by the European Veterinary Commission, Arsen Didur from the Ukrainian Association of Milk Processors pointed out to BNR.
“In 2023, we have delivered from Ukraine to Bulgaria 2,500 tons of dry milk. Ukraine is able to deliver 5,000 tons of dry milk to Bulgaria. We can deliver over 2,000 tons of condensed milk. If Bulgaria needs and is ready, we can also deliver other types of production,” he pointed out.
Bulgarian milk processors buy the raw milk of our farmers, but it is not enough, commented Plamen Angelov, a member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Association of Milk Processors.
“There is at least a 30% shortage of quality raw milk, a raw material that is no longer produced by Bulgarian livestock breeders,” Angelov explained.
In May, an online meeting between the Bulgarian and Ukrainian agrarian ministers is expected, and one of the topics is expected to be the increase in Ukrainian imports of raw materials for the Bulgarian dairy industry.
