The theater marathon starts on May 9
The first performance in May “Morphine” will be on the Ruse stage. This is the first production in our country based on the novel of the same name by Mikhail Bulgakov, the directorial debut of Kristina Belomorska and the first solo show of the actor Petar Petrov – Pero. The scenography and costumes are the work of Siyana Draganinska. The author of the music is David Kokonchev. The play is to some extent a kind of confession of Bulgakov, since he too was addicted to opiates at a certain period of his life. It starts at 19:00 in the Chamber Hall. Dramatic theater “Racho Stoyanov” Gabrovo, guest on the Ruse stage on the 10 May with “The Picture of Dorian Gray” based on the novel by Oscar Wilde. Directed by Veselka Kuncheva. The dramatic version is also hers, co-authored with Polina Hristova. Almost the entire Gabrovsky troupe took part in the performance theater, as well as two guest actors. The scenography and costumes are the work of Marieta Golomehova, composer – Milen Apostolov, choreographer – Yavor Kunchev. It starts at 19:00 on the Big Stage.
11 May is for “Emotions of First Necessity” – author’s musical performance based on fragments of “Fear and Misery in the Third Reich” by Bertolt Brecht. The director is Eva Danailova – winner of the award for young director “Slavi Shkarov” 2023. The theme of the performance is the “choice” we make every day. From our decisions, consequences are formed and we are responsible for ourselves, for others, for society. But how easy are decisions to be made? When is a decision important? Who can we turn to for help when we have to make an important choice? And is there a way back? The performance starts at 19:00 in the Chamber Hall.
Ruse theater invites you to “Zhivak” – an author’s solo performance by Dimitar Zhivkov on the 12th May, from 19:00 in the Chamber Hall. The director is Dimitar Stefanov, and the music is by Martin Karov. A performance dedicated to the Vratchan mentality, sense of humor and worldview. Tickets at the box office of the Revenue Building.
At 14 May, from 7:00 p.m. Kadri Habil, Milen Dimitrov and Borislav Apostolov appear again on the Chamber Stage in “The Spirit of the Poet” by Stefan Tsanev under the direction of Ivaylo Nenov. The national ideals of the Renaissance are still alive, and the memory of the fallen heroes unites the young nation. Former revolutionaries – Stefan Stambolov and Zahariy Stoyanov – have to undergo a fateful transformation – from freedom fighters to become the new rulers. But what happens when, 16 years after Botev’s death, he himself knocks on the Prime Minister’s door?
The program of theaterand continues with “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” on the 20th May, from 19:00 on the Big Stage. Already with the IKAR 2024 award for the debut of Kaloyan Zhelev and guest actor Stoyan Radev. The director is Boyan Ivanov. A boy is accused of killing a dog and trying to unravel the whole story he embarks on the biggest adventure of his life. Christopher is an intelligent, mathematical genius, but has trouble communicating.
The play “The Puppet from the Pushed Island” by Martin McDonagh makes its second premiere in front of a Ruse audience on the 22nd May, from 7:00 p.m. on the Big Stage. The director is Prof. Plamen Markov, set designer Svetoslav Kokalov. The story tells how the news reaches the “shunted island” that a crew is arriving from Hollywood to shoot a movie. This is the event that unfolds the plot and develops the characters of McDonagh’s characters.
Another invitation from DT “Sava Ognyanov” for Mikhail Bilalov’s comedy one-man show “Boom – Boom”, which will be played on the 27 May, from 7:00 p.m. on the Big Stage. The author is Vanya Nikolova (“Undercover”, “Connections” and “The naked truth about the group “Zhiguli”) If you think that the life of underground bosses is not fun and full of curiosities, think again. The theater month ends on the 30th May with a comedy – “Still Life with an Obese Nephew” by Ion Sapdaru with director Boyan Ivanov. The stars Lubo Neikov and Robert Yanakiev are guests. With an original sense of humor and unexpected twists, the author enters the lives of supposedly ordinary people to reveal the dimensions and damage of loving and being loved, as well as the inexplicable nature of love between people. It starts at 19:00 on the Big Stage.
