Permanent arrest for Hussein Khair, detained with a record 402 kg of heroin

--

Permanent arrest for the Turkish citizen, detained with a record 402,720 kg of heroin at the “Captain Andreevo” checkpoint, the District Court in Haskovo ruled. The drug worth BGN 16,727,377.92 was found in sleeping mattresses of his truck, see HERE.

Hussein Khair was detained while trying to cross the border on 17 April. From the evidence collected at the present moment of the pre-trial proceedings, the court deduces a justified assumption that the accused committed the crime. According to the magistrates, there is a real danger that he will abscond given the gravity of the crime committed. The accused is a foreign citizen who does not have the status of a person, long-term or permanent resident in Bulgaria, and does not have a permanent address in our country. Therefore, according to the court, only the remand measure “detention in custody” is adequate to the goals of the law – to ensure the presence of the accused in the proceedings and during the execution of the procedural actions of the investigation.

The ruling is subject to appeal and protest before the Court of Appeals – Plovdiv within 3 days from the date of its ruling. If he is found guilty, Husein Khair may receive a penalty of “imprisonment” for a term of 15 to 20 years and a “fine” of 200 thousand to 300 thousand BGN.
