The South-Central State Enterprise plans to renew the work of the farm for artificial breeding of grouse in the “Izvora” DLS, which functioned in the period 1978-1992. The project is included in the investment program of the State Development Fund of Ukraine, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. The farm in Devin was created with the idea of increasing the population density on the territory of the farm and providing birds for resettlement in other regions of the country. The maximum number of birds was reached in the period 1985-87 – about 20 males and 40 females. Every year, 5 to 10 birds are released into the wild. In this regard, at the beginning of April, representatives of the YUCDP-Smolyan held a working meeting at a farm for artificial breeding of grouse in the Republic of Poland. The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the activity and technology of work in the artificial breeding of grouse on the farm.
At the end of the last century, the species almost disappeared in Poland, and by 1999 they indicated a stock of 10 grouse. In 2000, work on its restoration began, and for this purpose the farm for artificial breeding was created. It is a curious fact that in the beginning Bulgarian experience was also used from the then operating farm in the “Izvora” DLS, which was explained by the kind hosts. The work in the field farm covers the activities of hatching the young, raising them to adult birds, caring for them, veterinary-medical measures and other artificial breeding activities. Conditions close to those in nature have been created, which helps the artificially produced birds to adapt more easily when they are released. With more than 20 years of work, foresters from Poland have achieved considerable success, with more than 1,000 birds currently resettled in the wild.
The good practices and innovations with which the representatives of the SDP got acquainted in Poland will be of great benefit for the upcoming restoration of the artificial breeding of grouse in Bulgaria in the “Izvora” DLS.
