Nearly 150 participants present leadership innovations at a forum in Dobrich

Nearly 150 participants from 15 schools from North-Eastern Bulgaria from the regions of Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Targovishte and Silistra participated in the regional educational forum “Innovations for leadership from school to life”. The host of the event is Innovative Secondary School “Dimitar Talev” in partnership with RUO Dobrich and the Municipality of Dobrich.

Good practices were presented by students and teachers from the districts of Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Targovishte and Silistra.

Emphasis was also placed on the formation of leadership skills among young people.

The participants attended a performance prepared in the optional form “Drama and Civic Education”.

Lessons on financial literacy, use of artificial intelligence in education, project-based learning on environmental topics were presented, the interdisciplinary approach in STEM teaching and the design of this type of lessons, digital local knowledge, etc. were presented. A large part of the innovations presented included the use of digital technologies to change the educational process.

The model “Integrated thematic learning by involving students in complex activities” is implemented in the host school. Various subjects are included in the training and students are given the opportunity to be in an active position. Interactive resources are used and the stereotype of the classroom teaching system is broken. Teachers conduct interdisciplinary lessons. Among them are “Cosmic Journey” (includes Bulgarian language, mathematics and man and society for 4th grade), “Ice Kingdom” (Bulgarian language, mathematics, national studies, music and fine art in first grade), a binary lesson in biology and health education and English in grade 9, etc.

The forum is held within the framework of the National Program “Innovations in Action”. Teachers have commented that this program provides an opportunity for teachers and students to be creative, and that the number of people willing to participate is increasing.
