MEP Elena Yoncheva gave her explanation for the surprising nomination by the DPS for the European elections. Yoncheva was nominated to participate in the vote by DPS – Blagoevgrad.

We remind you that yesterday Yoncheva’s name appeared in the media space on another topic, namely – the case she lost for unpaid taxes.

Here is the explanation for the surprise, personally from Elena Yoncheva:

Thank you for the nomination I received from DPS – Blagoevgrad to participate in the campaign as a candidate for MEP. I accept this as recognition for everything I have achieved in the European Parliament for Bulgaria.

As I have said publicly many times, the decision whether I will run depends on whether I can continue the battles I have waged for the last five years for my country and whether I can get the support to do so. Namely:

– Stopping uncontrolled migration – Stopping human trafficking (channeling)

– Working measures against corruption at the national and European level

– Protection of journalists from censorship and political persecution

As an MEP, I was able to make a breakthrough on a number of topics:

– I led negotiations on the overall legislation in the Migration Pact as group chairman with the representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council. After five years of discussions, the Pact was adopted. It repeals the Dublin Regulation, which is unfair to Bulgaria. And it will help reduce uncontrolled migration.

– We have started work on legislation to effectively limit human trafficking (canalism)

– On my initiative, legislation on media freedom was proposed. I also supported the proposal to guarantee transparency of media ownership and funding, and the protection of journalists from censorship. Social networks will no longer be able to download quality media content.

This is only part of my work in the European Parliament. It is public.

I will accept support for participation in the European elections, which will allow me to continue working on these important topics for Bulgaria. I will accept support that would give me the freedom to stand up for them.
