The ICGB provides grants to all municipalities along the route of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector with a focus on small settlements. Within the framework of the campaign, a total of BGN 305,442 will be donated to 12 municipalities. 64 villages on the territory of Bulgaria and 7 in Greece will be covered.

The initiative is part of the long-term commitment of the transmission operator to support the communities and protect the environment in the areas along the route of the IGB gas pipeline. The interconnector is 182 km long and passes through the regions of Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Stara Zagora, Kardjali and Komotini.

Donations are targeted, and each locality can make an individual decision on what to spend the relevant funds on. In this way, the ICGB provides municipalities with the opportunity to address specific needs that are specific to the respective locality. Requests have already been received for the appropriation of amounts for the purchase of agricultural machinery, equipment for a public sports ground, support for local sports teams, materials for temple repair works.

The ICGB is developing a number of initiatives within the framework of its Livelihood Recovery Plan, aimed entirely at the regions along the pipeline route in Bulgaria and Greece. The company has already successfully implemented a donation campaign to help farmers with a total of 74 tons of artificial fertilizer, enough for a 10-year period. The transmission operator conducts regular educational programs for local communities related to safety rules and crisis response related to the operation of the gas pipeline.
