The registered Bulgarian producers under Regulation 26 are 4317 until April 22. Most of them offer primary products – milk, honey, fish, eggs and meat. The effect of the bylaw is the sale of several hundred to thousands of tons of food per year. This was announced by Lyubomir Kulinski, Director of the Food Control Directorate at the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (FAFSA), at the 18th Easter Forum “Brand Bulgaria. Protection of Bulgarian Agriculture and Food”, organized by “Standard” media. The discussion takes place in the capital’s “Marinella” hotel. Funds for the so-called Ukrainian aid and measures to overcome the consequences for the harvest due to the drought are among the main highlights of the talks.

Ordinance 26 is the first, according to Kulinski’s information, by-law that enabled a small producer to enter the market and sell small quantities of food to end consumers. The regulation was issued in 2010 with the aim of ensuring direct access of Bulgarian foods, according to Bulgarian recipes, to the Bulgarian market, recalled the representative of the Bulgarian Food and Drug Administration.

BABH is currently working on the approval and legalization of the so-called farmers’ markets in Bulgaria, by preparing an ordinance. The administrative burden has been reduced to a minimum, Kulinski announced. He personally hopes that the amount of Bulgarian products offered at the stands of these markets will grow.

Touching on the consumer topic surrounding Easter shopping, Ljubomir Kulinski announced that for half a month, extraordinary checks have been carried out in slaughterhouses, wholesale warehouses, the retail network, egg producers, couscous, etc.

“So far, no major violations have been found, but they can always happen. The target order expires on May 8, and in the next two or three days I will be able to give more general information,” he said.
