Bulgarian industrial poultry farming is facing a crisis. About 40% of laying hens in our country are affected by bird flu. The disease was also registered in broiler breeding farms, which had not happened for years, Daniel Bozhankov, chairman of the Association of Industrial Poultry Breeding, warned. Large farms in both Northern and Southern Bulgaria are affected. However, according to him, a lack of eggs in the commercial network for Easter is not expected due to imports from other countries.

“Large traders from the European Union and third countries took advantage of the situation with the spread of influenza in our country, and the niche was immediately filled with eggs from Poland, Romania and Ukraine, but Bulgarian eggs on the market probably will be less”Bozhankov pointed out.

No price increase is expected.

“The Eurostat data we monitor and the trade surveys we do show that there is no room for an increase and there should be no change for the end user even for the holidays.” added the chairman of the Industrial Poultry Association.
