After the recent cases of children with whooping cough, there is also interest in the vaccine in Burgas. This was reported to Gramofona News by Dr. Miroslava Kiselkova, head of the “Anti-epidemic control” department at the RZI. “We are currently seeing a desire on the part of people to immunize themselves against whooping cough. Vaccines are administered to those who have missed immunization from the mandatory immunization calendar. GPs call us and ask about the vaccines,” said Dr. Kiselkova.
There is no shortage of pertussis vaccines from the mandatory immunization calendar in Burgas. They are supplied by the Ministry of Health and are currently all available, the RZI specified. Pharmacies are short of the recommended vaccines, but they are quickly delivered. “These vaccines are stored at 2 to 8 degrees. When someone needs such a product, it is enough to ask at the pharmacy and it will be delivered to him. These vaccines are not stored in the pharmacy warehouses”, explained Kiselkova.
No new cases of whooping cough have been registered in the last 24 hours in Burgas. So far, there are 8 sick people, including a six-month-old baby and a 62-year-old man. The rest of the patients are students, and their contacts are being monitored for 14 days. If someone is symptomatic, they are referred to a general practitioner or infectious disease specialist for examination and treatment. Dr. Kiselkova added that by the end of the week, the health authorities will announce whether a whooping cough epidemic should be declared in the country.
