With the same bait with which they attacked the contract with “Botash”, the people’s representatives should check why the capacity under this contract remains unused, urged Rumen Radev

In order for Bulgaria to win, competence is needed, and national interests must be placed before party and personal interests. This was stated by the head of state Rumen Radev to journalists today. I deliberately waited for the hysteria about “Botash” to reach its peak, in order to see the effect of the incompetent and hypocritical attitude towards a complex and important matter for our energy security, said President Radev and called on the people’s representatives to use the same bait with which they attacked the contract with “Botash”, to check why the capacity under this contract remains unused – both for internal consumption and for sale abroad. This means that they will carry out a thorough inspection of where and what kind of gas we import, he added.

The president pointed out that apparently many of the people’s representatives do not understand the truth, because when they were in power they stopped the contract with “Gazprom” and declared that “we will never import Russian gas again”. Rumen Radev reminded that when the caretaker government with Prime Minister Gulab Donev took office, our country only had 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan and the only way to deliver the remaining missing amount to guarantee annual consumption, about 2 billion cubic meters, was through the delivery of liquefied gas. “That’s why the political breakthrough with Turkey was made and we got access to their 5 liquefied gas terminals and Galab Donev’s office announced tenders for liquefied gas,” the head of state reminded. “The parties that are supposedly at war with Putin, when they came back to power, instead of finalizing these tenders and importing liquefied gas, they returned to their favorite occupation – to import Russian gas en masse through intermediaries”, emphasized Rumen Radev and pointed out that for the last last year we imported 1.7 billion cubic meters of such gas. Therefore, the reserved capacity from the contract with “Botash” remains unused. The President also pointed out that instead of selling through this capacity and Bulgaria profiting, the rulers accepted the absurd energy contribution, with which they destroyed the trust in Bulgaria as a partner and scratched us as a potential supplier of gas.

The president also emphasized that the probability that the contract for the transfer of natural gas from Russia through Ukraine to Europe will not be renewed from the beginning of next year is huge. “Then suddenly Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and other countries will be in dire need of new sources and routes for gas, and the contract with Botash could be extremely profitable,” stressed Rumen Radev.

“I have already stated that I will fully support Mr. Glavchev in his election for any minister, because it is his responsibility,” the president said in response to a question about the decree he issued earlier this week on changes in the composition of the official government, with which acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev was also appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Asked if he has confidence in the fairness of the electoral process, Rumen Radev stated that, in order for there to be such, decisive actions are needed from both the government and the CEC to guarantee a fair vote.

In connection with the decision to increase the salaries of Bulgarian military personnel from January 1, 2025, the president congratulated the people’s representatives for finally listening to his repeated calls for emergency measures to end the outflow of people from the Bulgarian army.

Regarding the nomination of Elena Yoncheva as a candidate for a member of the European Parliament from the DPS civil quota, the president pointed out that everyone is free to seek support where they see fit, but also to bear responsibility for their decisions.
