83 years have passed today since the birth of Nedyalka Keranova – the great Bulgarian folk singer from the Thracian folklore region.

She was born on April 24, 1941 in the village of Tatarevo, Mineralni Bani municipality, Haskovo region. He comes from a poor family, whose main livelihood is agriculture. Her father, Todor Keranov, is a famous wedding musician, a violinist. As a girl, Nedyalka impresses with her distinctive gift of a thick, deep and controlled voice. He learned the songs from the Tatar women and from professional musicians. At the age of 13, he received his first distinction and, together with Magda Pushkarova, Boris Karlov and other musicians, traveled around Bulgaria, singing at weddings and celebrations.

In 1956, she became a soloist in the Plovdiv District Ensemble. In 1960, Philip Kutev invited her to the State Ensemble in Sofia, now “Filip Kutev”, where Nedyalka worked for eight years. The singer defines this period as “the most fatal mistake” in my life. After the departure of the composition, the press came out with the headline “A bird in a cage does not stand”.

He returns to Plovdiv, where he feels best. He sings with almost all instrumental groups in Thrace. He devotes himself entirely to performances with Thracian orchestras, mainly in the Plovdiv region. She also started making recordings with the orchestras of Kosta Kolev, Petko Radev, Emil Kolev, with the Lenovska and Sadovska groups, she was accompanied by musicians such as Atanas Valchev, Hari Asenov, Todor Prashtakov, she sang with the “Kanarite” orchestra and the Konushensky orchestra.

He has released three LPs with a million copies. It is called “the most male singer”, “the Bulgarian Ella Fitzgerald”, “the queen of the wedding song”, “the black pearl of Thrace”. Sunday admires women who sing men. The singer says that the song needs to be worked out, it is maturing.

She has won gold medals from music festivals at home and abroad.

Nedyalka Keranova’s last years were lonely and sad. He died of cancer on June 22, 1996 in Plovdiv.
