Priests from the Sliven Diocese want a church trial to be held for the Stavroff brothers. ic. Evgeni Yanakiev, chairman of the Sliven church “St. Dimitar’ and his brother Stavrof. ic. Sylvester Yanakiev. The first brought the church board to the temple as a partner in a company, the second is sole owner and partner in several companies. The letter requesting an ecclesiastical court was signed by thirty-two priests and was sent at the beginning of April to Metropolitan John of Varna and Greater Preslav, who is the deputy of the widowed Sliven diocesan throne, and to the members of St. Synod.

The letter points out a number of illegal actions incompatible with the priesthood, including public slander of bishops and fellow priests, creation of intrigues and divisions, abuse of the name of Sliven Metropolitan Ioanikiy, making unproven accusations in the media against clerics, etc.

The priests signal: “With his constant talking about property, money and abuses, as well as protecting the interests of the diocese, he deliberately hides a partnership of the Church Board of the church he represents, “St. Dimitar” in the company “Lovehill” OOD, EIK 205356430. A partner in the same company is Nedelina Draghieva, who is known to live on a family basis with his brother Sr. ik. Sylvester Yanakiev in violation of the rules and canons of the Orthodox Church. In connection with the above Article ic. Yevgeny Yanakiev has been covering up his brother for many years, misleading the late and current metropolitan, the clergy and the laity.” Regarding the other brother Sylvester Yanakiev, the letter says: “For the past few years, he has been receiving remuneration as a priest at the temple of St. Sofia” city of Sliven without serving in the church during the regular week due to him. And at the moment, he is present in the payroll, under which the vicar of the Sliven throne, Metropolitan Ioan, probably also signs.” The clerics recall that, by his own admission, his way of life required him to take off the cassock of a priest, but he did not do so “because the metropolitan would not let him,” and they are perplexed as to why such a man would now present himself as the conscience of the diocese.

The letter to the bishops ends with the following words: “Remaining with faith and hope in you, our bishops, we express our confidence that our request will be granted in the shortest possible time to clear the stain that the two priests cast on the clergy and the laity in Sliven Diocese. We ask for your prayers and remain faithful in Christ, the child of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church!”. /dveri.bg/
