In 1719 is the novel of the English writer Daniel Defoe – “Robinson Crusoe” was published. The shipwreck Alexander Selkir, who was discovered in 1709, is considered the prototype of the novel. on the island of Mas-o-Terra. Selkir is believed to have spent nearly five years on the island. Selkyr is Scottish, and after being found he was a skilled hunter and successfully used the resources found on the island. This is the basis of Defoe’s novel.
The novel became one of the most popular in the world, being adapted several times. The most famous film is from 1997. starring Tom Hanks.
In 1792 France introduced the guillotine as a means of capital punishment. The guillotine is a device for carrying out a death sentence by beheading. The device is known for being the primary method of execution in France during the French Revolution. The estimated number of victims of this invention is between 15,000 and 40,000 people.
