The mayors of the 11 municipalities of the Montana region have banned poultry markets and their transportation. The orders issued by them prohibit the free release of poultry on the streets and in public places. Feathered should be kept in enclosures and have no contact with other animals. In the event of an increase in the mortality of birds on a given farm, the local veterinarians should be notified immediately. In the case of an already established outbreak of bird flu, animals must not be kept on the site for at least 21 days, and the farm is cleaned and disinfected.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the epizootic commission in the regional administration in Montana. The meeting was convened because of the outbreaks of bird flu in the country and the order issued by the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), Dr. Svetlozar Patarinski, with measures to stop the spread of the infection.

The police is entrusted with the control of compliance with the restrictions.

So far, there has been no outbreak of bird flu in the Montana region, said regional governor Ivaylo Antonov.
