The financing of snowboarding will be increased, and Bulgaria will aim for 4 sums for the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026. This became clear at a press conference today.

Our young stars Tervel Zamfirov, Christian Georgiev, Petar Gergovski and Alexander Krshniak became the team of March in the poll of Press Club “Bulgaria”.

They won 5 medals at the World Youth Championships in Austria – 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

The vice-president of the federation, Georgi Bobev, congratulated the talented snowboarders for the award and expressed confidence that in the future there will be more occasions to be chosen for the team of the month.

“The rating is very high. The World Cup is the highest forum for youth participation. The goals are now the World Cup, which also carries an Olympic quota. They have a very serious potential to win it,” said Bobev.

“God grant that we get to the point where five people have quotas and we have to determine four, as the maximum for a country,” the deputy head of the Ski and Snowboard Federation, which yesterday officially celebrated the centenary, wished for the Games in 2026 anniversary of white sports on home soil Bobev revealed that they are considering bringing in another coach to work with the snowboarders.

Moreover, the funds provided are increasing and they will become more and more in line with excellence, he assured.

Christian Georgiev, who won the gold medal in parallel slalom at the Lakhtal World Championship and with a small lead left last year’s world champion Tervel Zamfirov with the silver, said that he was very satisfied with the performance and the goal was achieved. The team spirit is so strong that the youngsters feel like a family. They are everywhere together, not only on the white slopes, but in their free time, during the holidays.

“We’re an all-season team and that’s how we’re going to go to the World Cup and know we’re at the world level,” said Tervel, who at the World Championships, in addition to parallel slalom, grabbed the silver medal in parallel giant slalom. In 2023 we took 4 medals, and now 5″, he recalled the growing success of the team.

“I am a student and a competitor for the first time,” added Tervel. He is studying veterinary medicine at the Forestry University and at the same time at the National Sports Academy.

“I have taken all 9 exams,” reported the talented snowboarder, who turns out to be not the only one from the team with the ambition to graduate from two universities. Kristian Georgiev and Alexander Krushniak will graduate from two higher educations at the same time.

And Petar Gergovski, who made a bronze double at the World Championships, in the parallel slalom and in the parallel giant slalom, is the only one who is not yet a student, as he has to finish the 12th grade first. He shared that he will certainly continue his studies at the National Academy of Sciences, like all his teammates, but he still has no orientation for a second university.

Peter remembered that at the European Cup in Pamporovo, when he made a boom with gold and silver, he experienced an extraordinary emotion near his native Chepelare in front of his own audience. He admitted that he can always count on advice and help from our most successful snowboarder, Radoslav Yankov, who is also the pride of the Chepelar school.

“The fact that we are a team makes our task easier, it makes our training easier and we will continue like that in the future,” said Al. Krasniak, who with Christian in 2025 will already compete in the men’s category. “Still, men’s sports are very serious. I hope in a few years, let’s argue about the World Cup medals. We can hope for an Olympic quota for 2026,” Christian added.
