The municipal councilors in Pazardzhik did not reduce their salaries, as was expected to happen at their April meeting held yesterday. The amendment proposal was submitted by Nikolay Pandezov from the “Development for Pazardzhik” group, but was withdrawn at the very beginning of the session. It provided for the councilors’ remuneration to be reduced from 45% to 20% of the salary of the chairman of the local authority for the relevant month.
The leader of the group, Angel Vasilev, explained to his colleagues that the proposal is actually being postponed because there are legal weaknesses in it and it takes time for them to be removed. He added that a new proposal with a similar content, but more precisely prepared, will be submitted soon, and it will again be submitted to public discussion.
We remind you that the discussion of the topic began with the vote to increase the salary of the mayor of the municipality, Petar Kulenski, which was increased to 4,900 BGN. The chairman of the municipal council receives 90% of it – 4410 BGN. 45 percent of this amount is the previous remuneration of each of the remaining 40 councilors, that is – BGN 1,984.50. Pandezov’s proposal was to reduce the amount to BGN 882. In this way, for a 4-year term, the funds saved for the Municipality will be in the amount of BGN 2,160,000, it is also stated in the project, which was to be discussed in the hall at yesterday’s meeting.
