The XXVII National Olympiad in Astronomy starts today in Pleven. This was announced for BTA by Irena Borisova, director of Geo Milev Mathematical High School (MG), which hosts the competition.

The organizers are the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Department of Education – Pleven, the Municipality of Pleven and the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria – Pleven branch.

96 of the best young astronomers in our country arrived in Pleven, together with 28 leaders. The students are from 7th to 12th grade and have successfully passed the two previous rounds of the Olympiad. “In a two-day battle, they will show themselves, what they know and can do, and the national astronomy team will be broadcast from them,” added Borisova.

The youngsters will show off their knowledge on two competition days – on Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and on Sunday from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.

“I hope that the Olympics will pass smoothly and successfully and that everyone will show their knowledge,” Borisova said. From Pleven, three students of MG “Geo Milev” will participate in two of the age groups. The group of participants from Varna is impressive – 23.

The official opening of the Olympics is tonight in the “Katya Popova” hall. The awarding ceremony for the best performing astronomers will take place on Sunday in the Assembly Hall of the Mathematical Gymnasium.

We remind you that in the lobby of the “Katya Popova” hall, the exhibition “My Alarm Clocks” is presented, which shows the Bulgarian Olympic teams in natural sciences and their leaders. These are the best Bulgarian students who participated in international Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, linguistics, informatics, astronomy and astrophysics.
