Textile waste is one of the current global problems related to environmental pollution. According to the data of the Bulgarian Association “Circular Textiles”, 5 million tons of textiles are thrown away every year in the European Union. Of these, more than 3 million tons end up in mixed domestic waste and harm the environment accordingly.
Inspired by Earth Day, which was at the beginning of the week, “Rotaract Club Varna”, for the second year in a row, organized an event dedicated to sustainable fashion. It bears the name “Closet with a cause – Second chance” and this one will be held Saturday from 10.00 to 16.00 at the Social Teahouse in town.
Giving a second chance to unnecessary textiles is the basis of this initiative, noted Victoria Harizanova, president of “Rotaract Club Varna”.
Within the event there will be clothing repair and alteration workshop. Teams from TexCycle will introduce people to how they can make different accessories and articles from unnecessary textiles. In addition to the workshop, within the event there will be lecturesdedicated to the recovery of textiles, as well as gorge with clothes made from recycled materials.
