A fire broke out in the engine compartment of a cargo ship sailing from Egypt to Bulgaria through the Dardanelles Strait. The 14-member crew of the vessel was evacuated. One of the sailors is in a serious condition and was taken to the hospital in Canakkale, reports the Turkish television station NTV.

“The fire broke out in the Akbash area of ​​the 107-meter dry cargo ship sailing under the flag of Barbados, which was headed to the port of Varna. Tugs and a fast rescue boat were sent to the area. The movement of vessels in the Dardanelles Strait was temporarily suspended in both directions,” the media clarifies.

After the fire was extinguished and the crew evacuated, the ship was towed to port and traffic through the strait was resumed.
