A fire broke out in the engine compartment of a cargo ship sailing from Egypt to Bulgaria through the Dardanelles Strait. The 14-member crew of the vessel was evacuated, one of them is in a serious condition, reports the Turkish television channel NTV.
Fiery hell
The fire broke out in the Akbash area of the 107-meter dry cargo ship under the Barbados flag AK DISCOVERY, which was heading to the port of Varna. Tugs and a fast rescue boat were dispatched to the area.

The ship’s crew of 14 people was evacuated, one of the injured – a Syrian citizen – was taken to the hospital in Canakkale.
After the fire was extinguished and the crew evacuated, the ship was towed to port, and traffic through the strait was resumed.
