The report on the state of the Bulgarian transport industry, describing the significant economic losses caused by the delay in the inclusion of Bulgaria in the overland Schengen, was presented at a meeting of the expert group at the Mobility and Transport Directorate of the European Commission. The report was developed jointly with the Union of International Carriers and was assessed by the office of the European Commissioner for Transport – Adina Valean as very important and specific. For the first time, the European Commission has received reliable data on the crossing of land borders by Bulgaria.

The subsequent discussions with experts from the European Commissioner’s office show a clear interest and willingness to discuss the issues presented.

“Representatives of the European Commission asked specific questions and expressed a firm will to seek solutions to the problems described in the report,” read a Facebook post by the Bulgarian representative in the EC expert group, Nikolay Rashkov.

Although a real breakthrough in policies may take time, these talks are the first step towards understanding and addressing the specific difficulties faced by the Bulgarian transport sector in the context of European regulations.

This development emphasizes the importance of direct communication and interaction with the European institutions for presenting and solving national problems that have a wide economic and social resonance.
