The regional governor of Vidin, Ivo Atanasov, dismissed the complaint of the residents of the Vidin neighborhood “Nov Pat” against the order of the mayor of the municipality, which determined the voting sections for the upcoming elections on June 9. According to the order issued by the mayor Tsvetan Tsenkov, there will be no polling stations in the school in the neighborhood, as before. In a statement, the order clarified that the new distribution is aimed at allowing voters to make their choice without interference and manipulation, to prevent cyber-attacks and data security breaches during elections.

In their complaint, the residents of “Nov Pat” state that the relocation of the polling stations from the neighborhood is illegal, unmotivated and discriminatory.

Among the arguments of the regional governor to dismiss the complaint are that the polling stations are not permanent and, in view of this, it should not be assumed that there is a relocation of polling stations in the municipality of Vidin during the upcoming elections. The decision states that the reason why the mayor of Vidin changed the addresses of the polling stations is the objective impossibility of a normal election process in the building of the “Sofroniy Vrachanski” Primary School, as the sanitary facilities are being repaired there.

The decision is subject to appeal within three days of its announcement before the Vidin Administrative Court.
