S enzation documentary evidence of Vanga’s church marriage was discovered by the writer Dimitar Chapkenov, a relative of the prophetess through the silver line. He revealed to the Telegraph that he accidentally came across the priceless find while collecting information about his native village of Nikudin, Strumyani municipality.

“I made a book about him, which has already been printed. The village is small, far from the learned world, and it turned out that there is very little written information about it. So while I was searching here and there through the archives, I remembered to take a look at the local church “Holy Prophet Elijah”. While I was looking through the two church books – “About weddings” and “About deaths”, in the first one I found the church marriage of Vanga Pandeva with Dimitar Gushterov written on one page”, said Chapkenov.

He explained that the ceremony took place in the neighboring village of Kranjilitsa, where the groom is from. And the reason is that in those days the priest Seraphim of Nikudin traveled to serve there as well.

Girl and boy

It is also clear from the church register that the wedding took place on May 10, 1942. Against the name of the prophetess, a native of Strumica, the priest wrote “maiden”, and against that of the groom Mitko – “boy”, with which he certified that this was their first marriage. Both are Orthodox by profession, the priest added. It is noteworthy that the blind Pandeva settled relatively late considering the rules of those years (over 30 years), as she was five years older than her husband (at 27 years).

Grandfather

“Actually, her husband Dimitar Gushterov looks like a grandfather to me. He was my grandmother’s first cousin, who was also named Vangelia. Since I was a child, I remember that my parents called the prophetess with awe “Vuynata Vanga” in the local dialect – her husband was my father’s uncle,” the 69-year-old researcher clarified his family relationship with Gushterovo.

He shared that he was extremely impressed by the church book testifying to the level of patriotism in that Bulgaria. “It has a seal of the Strumica Diocese from 1914. It was very interesting and nice to me that the twine with which it was laced was in the colors of the tricolor – white, green, red.” Today, even at over 100 years old, the church book just shines,” Chapkenov does not hide his admiration.

After the wedding, the young family settled in Petrich, where they lived in a house built by Chapkenov’s grandfather. In the following years, thousands of people from all over the world began to flock to this part of Bulgaria for advice from the phenomenal clairvoyant. “However, I or my relatives have never relied on her gift,” Dimitar Chapkenov is frank.
