More than 240 participants gathered at the four-day forum on “Refraction – from physical refraction to refractive surgery” in Plovdiv.
It was solemnly opened by the Deputy Minister of Health Dobromira Kareva. She welcomed the organizers on behalf of the Minister of Health with the words: “I highly appreciate the work of the Bulgarian Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Ophthalmogenetics and the Bulgarian Society of Retinology in the interest of both Bulgarian ophthalmologists and improving the eye health of the population of all ages “.
Congratulatory addresses were sent by the Chairman of the Health Care Commission to the 49th National Assembly, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, the Chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Union, Dr. Ivan Madzharov, and the Rector of the Medical University – Plovdiv, Prof. Angel Uchikov.
“The format of the conference is unique in our country and specially created for young specialists and specialists in eye diseases,” said Prof. Alexander Oscar – initiator of the forum and vice-president of the “Academy of Ophthalmology” Foundation.
Within the framework of the forum, leading ophthalmologists from the country and abroad will present their achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of the most common vision disorders. The latest achievements in the treatment of rare eye diseases, both in childhood and in adulthood, will be considered.
“17 practical courses were organized in the individual subspecialties of eye diseases in order to upgrade the knowledge and skills of young doctors. They will have the opportunity to practice on the state-of-the-art excimer laser in our country, devices for corneal topography, biometrics, research of tear secretion, equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye, etc., emphasized the chairman of the “Academy of Ophthalmology” Foundation, Prof. Iva Petkova.
Academy of Ophthalmology takes place in Plovdiv at the Ramada Hotel, Hall Trakia and will continue until Sunday.
