This will not happen, and in June we will receive the regular convergence report of the European Central Bank, which will show that Bulgaria does not meet the criteria and the door to the Eurozone will remain closed from January 1, 2025. This was stated by the municipal councilor from “Vazrazhdane” Deyan Nikolov to journalists in the parliament.
“What the Euro-Atlantic parties will most likely try to do is to ask for an extraordinary convergence report that every country is entitled to. We could ask for one next year, but they wanted to do it in the fall, when inflation might be below the relevant values, but this is unlikely to happen,” added Nikolov.
He explained that there is also a problem with the budget deficit.
The policy led by Asen Vassilev led to structural problems with the budget, and I have information that it is very likely that Eurostat will calculate that for 2023, Bulgaria’s deficit on a cash basis was not below 3 percent, he pointed out.
When asked when Bulgaria will be ready to enter the Eurozone, Deyan Nikolov replied that this could happen “after 2043.
