Yesterday’s hail caused very serious damage to agricultural production in the Sliven region, specifically in Tvardishko – the eastern part, the town of Shivachevo, as there are completely failed areas of permanent plantings – fruit crops and vineyards, said the regional manager of Sliven, Eng. Marincho Hristov, quoted from BTA.

He pointed out that over 600 anti-hail missiles were launched from the structures of the Executive Agency “Fighting Hail” in the regions of Plovdiv, Haskovo, Stara Zagora and Sliven. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, over 20 hail cells were processed in 4 hours by the regional hail directorates in Tuzha, Stara Zagora, Popovitsa, Haskovo and Sliven. One of the cells passing over a protected territory was a super cell, which was affected by three regional directorates – Popovitsa, Petrovo and Staro selo.

A triangle was formed between Plovdiv, Sliven and Plodovitovo, where many hail clouds formed, and the goal was to break up the clouds in this area, explained the regional governor. This type of process is characterized by a continuous renewal of the cloud’s power, and it is impossible to completely prevent the hail, but only to reduce its size, he added.

As BTA reported, field crops and permanent crops suffered from the hail that fell in the afternoon of April 25 in the municipalities of Tvarditsa and Nova Zagora. There are damages in the municipality of Nova Zagora – partially in the villages of Karanovo and Asenovets, major damages in the village of Banya. In the municipality of Tvarditsa, the lands of Chervenakovo, Bliznets and Shivachevo villages were affected.

About five thousand acres of crops were affected by yesterday’s hailstorms in the area of the village of Zetivo in Chirpan, Deputy Mayor of Chirpan Rumen Tunanov informed BTA. Fruit trees are also affected, most of which are cherry trees.

He pointed out that two times there had been hail the size of a walnut. No cars, buildings or other material damage were damaged, the deputy mayor also said.

In the village of Svoboda, sunflower crops were destroyed during the second hail around 18:15. A land commission is currently on site to assess the damage. The sunflower is not insured because it was sown recently.

There was also hail in the villages of Dharva and Gita.
