In June, the regular convergence test of the European Central Bank is coming up, which will show that Bulgaria does not meet the criteria. This means that the door for Bulgaria to enter the Eurozone from January 1, 2025 is closed.
This was said by “Vazrazhdane” MP Deyan Nikolov, quoting an interview of the BNB governor Dimitar Radev from a few days ago.
What the Euro-Atlantic parties will most likely try to do is to ask for an extraordinary convergence report to which every country is entitled. Such are being prepared, we could also ask for it next year, but they wanted to do it in the fall, when inflation might be below the relevant values, but this is unlikely to happen, added Nikolov.
An attempt to enter the Eurozone in the middle of the year, according to Nikolov, would set a precedent and is also not possible. There is no country that has entered from a date other than January 1, he said.
The deputy warned that there is also a problem with the budget deficit.
The policy led by Asen Vassilev led to structural problems with the budget, and I have information that it is very likely that Eurostat will calculate that for 2023, on a cash basis, Bulgaria’s deficit was not below 3%, Nikolov announced.
