Sixth-graders from Burgas “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski” secondary school visited the district prosecutor’s office in the seaside town to take part in the traditional “Open Door Day” initiative. The students were welcomed by the prosecutors Radostina Ganeva, Ginka Chinova and the spokesperson of the prosecutor’s office Shtelian Dimitrov.

First of all, the guests were introduced to the procedure for filing complaints by injured persons in the registry of the district prosecutor’s office. Subsequently, the students were admitted to the office of the administrative head – prosecutor Maria Markova, who was waiting for them together with one of her deputies – prosecutor Kerka Dylgerska.

Prosecutor Markova clearly showed how the complaint filed in the registry is administered, placing the relevant resolution on it. She introduced the guests to the territorial scope of the District Prosecutor’s Office-Burgas and sharpened their attention to the crimes related to uncontrolled publication of photos on social networks, which could be used by unscrupulous adults in order to commit an illegal act.

The prosecutors drew the students’ attention to the harm that the use of narcotic substances causes, as well as to the punishment provided by law for this type of crime.

Prosecutor Dimitrov showed the children what an indictment looks like and talked about the role of the prosecutor in the pre-trial and court proceedings.

After the meeting in the office of the administrative head, the students visited the different offices in the district prosecutor’s office and got to know first-hand the processing of different types of documents.

The students also visited the so-called “children’s room” at the prosecutor’s office, after which they had the opportunity to enter a real courtroom, where they acted out an impromptu trial. The children’s class teacher was chosen as the judge in the trial, and jurors, prosecutors, lawyers and the defendant were some of the students. The case was about the theft of a backpack from a student, which took place in the central part of Burgas.

Each of the parties was given the opportunity to put on the appropriate toga and stand in their assigned place in the hall. The court hearings were held with the help of the prosecutors from the District Prosecutor’s Office-Burgas, and by participating in the impromptu trial, the children gained direct impressions of what happens in the cases in the courtrooms.
