Thousands of acres of agricultural land were affected by the hail in Chirpansko

In the municipality of Chirpan, the inspection and description of the damage from yesterday’s hail continues. Thousands of acres of agricultural land with cereals and orchards were affected.

Zetivovo is one of the most affected settlements in the municipality of Chirpan. In the afternoon yesterday, icy hail fell twice over the fields and gardens of the village. Today, residents were trying to save what was left after the natural disaster.

The biggest losses are for the local agricultural cooperativesaid the mayor of the village, Ivan Ganev:

“5,500 decares of corn, sunflower, chickpeas and wheat were found to have been destroyed. The cherry groves – somewhere around 20 percent are affected.”

In the afternoon, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ivan Kapitanov, is expected to arrive in Zetovo to familiarize himself with the situation on the spot.

Heavy hail also fell in the village of Kaloyanovets in Stara Zagora. Reports of destroyed fruit trees, potatoes and strawberries have been filed. A tour of the village was made, and the tenants were warned to make an inspection themselves and report the damage.

The Ministry of Agriculture reported that in order to receive compensation, farmers must submit an application for a survey within 7 days. Based on it, finding protocols are issued for 100% failed areas as a result of unfavorable climatic conditions, including hail. The documents will be accepted at the municipal agricultural offices.
