The first vaccination against pertussis will be able to be given to babies two weeks earlier or when the child turns one and a half months old.

The measures to limit the spread of the disease and to protect the most vulnerable groups were presented at today’s government meeting by the Minister of Health, Galya Kondeva.

“The main planned immunization should start earlier – from the 6th week. And secondly, the Ministry of Health will provide the opportunity for pregnant women between the 27th and 36th weeks of gestation, who wish, to be immunized against this disease free of charge,” he explained Condo.

“An organization will be created at the RZI to carry out free immunizations for pregnant women,” she specified.

The state chief health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev added that it is planned to have offices for free immunization of pregnant women in every regional center.

“If there is a need – mobile offices can be organized, but the number of pregnant women is not that large and it should be seen what the interest in immunization is,” he pointed out.
