More than 100 specialists participate in an international conference on spinal surgery in Ruse. For the second year in a row, we are hosting the International Conference on Spinal Surgery, and this is a high mark for us. I am glad that we were able to attract leading world names in spinal surgery from the USA, Spain, Russia and Turkey to participate in it. Here are also the biggest Bulgarian authorities in this very difficult and delicate specialty,” said the manager of the Medica University Hospital in Ruse, Dr. Ivelin Yotsov, who opened the scientific forum.
The Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Spinal Surgeons and Head of the Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Spinal Surgery at UMBAL “Medika” art. cor. Prof. Dr. Stefan Stanchev commented for BTA that the problems are huge in our country and in the world because of the aging population.
“The spine is one of the anatomical areas that are affected during all periods of aging. They lead to the corresponding symptoms, diseases, and pose very serious financial problems. They require an extremely serious attitude towards them,” said Prof. Stanchev.
According to him, unfortunately, there are very few surgeons working in the field of spine surgery in our country. “This is the most intelligent surgery, the most highly valued worldwide. It also requires a much longer training period,” the specialist added.
During the forum, scientific reports will develop topics related to the restoration of the sagittal balance of the spine, new horizons in the diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis and degenerative spinal deformities, including the possibilities of robotic technologies in surgical interventions and 3D-printing of custom implants.
