Pleven residents will be able to give ideas for the economic development of the municipality. This became clear at a press conference of the chairman of the Pleven Municipal Council, Prof. Dr. Ivan Malkodanski, today, April 26, at the local BTA press club.

“We voted (at the regular meeting of the General Assembly on April 25, note line) to create a public council on economic and investment policy, which will be attached to the Municipal Council. This decision was submitted by me,” explained Prof. Malkodanski. According to him, this is one of the ways of direct participation of citizens in the management of the municipality and their engagement with local problems:

“The public council will be represented by 5 municipal councilors. By May 30, we will send invitations to all NGOs and a large part of businesses for the upcoming meeting. A management board will be elected at it and regulations for the work of the board will be regulated. It will have advisory functions – it will be possible to give proposals and attract experts. The work of the public council will be completely free of charge. The goal is that it helps the municipality of Pleven, and not burdens its budget. I hope that in this way the citizens will be more engaged, that they will be given a platform where they can express their ideas and thoughts, from which we can sift the best ones.

If the community council works well and produces results, we may think about community councils on other topics as well.”

Prof. Malkodnaski also recalled the awarding of the title of “honorary citizen” of the municipality of Pleven to the boxer Yosif Panov. He shared that he intends next year, by the legal deadline of April 31, to propose the world boxing champion Alexander Vladimirov as an honorary citizen.

“The athletes make an extremely large advertisement for Pleven and deserve recognition,” Assoc. Ivan Malkodanski is emphatic.

The Chairman of the Municipal Council – Pleven also informed about two other important decisions adopted by the municipal councilors at their last meeting:

“We have given consent for the municipality of Pleven to apply in a competition announced by the Agency for People with Disabilities at the MTSP for financing projects for the construction of an accessible architectural environment for people with disabilities at cultural, historical and sports sites. The municipality of Pleven has a proposal to participate in the construction of an elevator in the Balkanstoy hall in order to improve access for people with disabilities.

We also adopted six decisions that concern kindergartens in Pleven, so that they can participate in the plan for integrated development of the municipality, whose term expires on May 9. The aim was for these kindergartens to apply for 100% grant funding. We managed to process the documents of all the kindergartens: Nezabravka, Kokiche, Edelweiss, Happy Childhood, Zornitsa and Cricket.

Prof. Malkodanskiz stated that the regulations for the work of the Municipal Fund “Culture” were also adopted:

“We will apply for funding under the rules of the National Culture Fund.” We hope to be able to attract serious projects by both local and national cultural figures for the fall.”
