Dear guests, little lazarkas from DG “Iglika” visited Pleven Municipality today. On behalf of the municipal leadership, they were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Elina Dimitrova.
Changed into authentic folk costumes, unique to the region, the lazarkas sang, played and chanted the traditional names for the holiday: may the bees swarm, may there be honey and sweetness, may the purses be full, may the barns be full, may the children be healthy – from stone to stone – tough. “May you be healthy and happy, good luck, master, stay healthy until next year,” the children wished. Lazaritsa (Lazarus Day) is a Christian holiday dedicated to the Resurrection of Lazarus. At the same time, the Bulgarian folk rite of lazaration is performed. The holiday is celebrated on the Saturday of the sixth week of Great Lent and eight days before Easter. Lazar girls go around the fields and houses, play and sing songs about love, fertility, health and family well-being.
