The largest duty-free shop in our country was opened today (April 26) at Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport. Its area is 1,733 square meters, announced the CEO of Sofia Airport SOF Connect, Jesus Cabayero.

“Within the store, there is also an area of 200 square meters dedicated entirely to Bulgaria and local products. There will be an area for tasting wine and other goods.”

From today, all passengers at the terminal will pass through the new shopping area.

The shopping center is managed by Avolta – the largest duty-free retailer in the world. Here is what the company’s executive director for Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, Walter Seib, said:

“From the signing of the agreement with SOF Connect to the opening of the store, two years have passed. I can say for sure that the airport looks different now. We want to promote Bulgarian products to the world. You should be proud of your country and what you offer . We are happy to support this venture and hope that this project will be successful not only for passengers but also from a commercial point of view”.

The opening of the duty-free shop was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Anna Natova, who pointed out that the reconstruction of the commercial areas is an important element of the airport’s investment program.

“In the last year, we have noticed an increase in passenger traffic at Sofia Airport. More than 7 million passengers have passed through it, which is an extremely positive signal for the Bulgarian economy.”

Jesus Cabayero added that the opening of the new food and beverage establishments at the terminal is also coming soon. According to him, SOF Connect will do everything possible to have them ready before Christmas.

In 2022, SOF Connect and Avolta concluded a contract for the management of duty-free shops at Sofia Airport for a period of 8 and a half years.

Avolta operates in 73 countries and over 1,000 locations, including airports, highways, cruise ships, train stations and more. 2.3 billion passengers pass through the company’s stores every year.
