There is no shortage of milk in Bulgaria, the goal is to import cheap dry milk from Ukraine

It depends on the government and the deputies how long this unregulated import of dry milk will continue, mostly from countries that are not members of the EU.

Dimitar Shopov, chairman of the Association for breeding black-colored breed in Bulgaria, stated this to BNR. The association unites farmers who produce more than 60% of the milk in the country.

He explained that Ukraine is a country that uses preparations for the production of grain and cereals, which are prohibited in Bulgaria. These preparations are harmful, the farmer was categorical and specified:

“With this grain, which is produced with these preparations, all the animals, birds, absolutely everything are grown and it comes to our market”.

According to him, the dry milk imported from Ukraine is at much lower prices than that imported from the EU.

In the show “Before Everyone”, Shopov denied the claim that there is a 30% shortage of milk production in Bulgaria:

“Last year, many of the farms were refused to buy the milk for several months. When there is a shortage, how can the milk not be bought?”

The prerequisite is for greater imports from Ukraine of cheaper dry milk, which is of poor quality, he expressed his opinion.

The farmers sell the produced milk to the dairies. This happens with a signed contract, but both parties can cancel the contract with one month’s notice, explained Dimitar Shopov.

According to him, this did not happen until last year. Last year, however, there was a period when farmers had nowhere to give their milk, he emphasized, adding that in this way the prices were drastically reduced.

The farmer pointed out another problem – according to him, the prices in the stores are not real:

“They can’t buy my milk at 80-90 cents, and the next moment cheese and other dairy products have such inflated prices in the stores. There must be some kind of control.”

According to him, there should be customs control, the unregulated import of palm oil and other products that are put into dairy products should be prohibited, and the dairies where violations are found should be publicly announced.
