“Business – ready for the euro” and “Professions of the future” were the topics of the workshop held today at Trakia University with the participation of the economist Levon Hampartsumyan and the former representative of the EC in Sofia and Zagreb Ognyan Zlatev. The organizer of the information event is “Europe Direct Stara Zagora”. As part of the discussion, the two participants presented to students and schoolchildren from the city the benefits of Bulgaria’s entry into the Eurozone. According to Hampartsumyan, the adoption of the euro will save the local business nearly a billion leva in transactions. He explained that in practice the Bulgarian state adopted the euro with the introduction of the Currency Board in 1997. “The euro is a measure of economic success,” said the expert.
For his part, Ognyan Zlatev gave detailed details about the process of accepting the European currency in Croatia at the beginning of last year. The former representative of the EC in Sofia and Zagreb categorically rejected the claims that the replacement of the kuna with the euro led to a double jump in prices. According to Zlatev, the transition turned out to be trouble-free, and the reason for this is the active and energetic policy of the state.
Ognyan Zlatev comments on the extent to which the internal political crisis in Bulgaria distances the country from the other EU member states. He also drew attention to the challenges facing the EU after the Euro vote.
In the course of the discussion at Thrace University, the moderator of the meeting, Rumyana Grozeva from Europe Directly, provoked Levon Hampartzumyan to give his point of view on the European “Green Deal” and the transformation in the Stara Zagorje region. The expert was skeptical of the approach with which European policies are trying to solve the climate problem.
