In 2023, a total of 69 occupational accidents were declared in the district, of which 65 were traumatic and 4 were non-traumatic, Stefan Robeto, the director of the Territorial Division of the National Insurance Institute (NII) in Sliven, announced at the meeting. The number of investigated accidents in 2023 is 13, of which one for another territorial division of NOI, which occurred on the territory of Sliven district. For three fatal accidents, orders have been issued not to accept them as work-related.
The Director of the Labor Inspection Territorial Directorate, Irena Ivanova, informed that in the first quarter of 2024, there were a total of 1,912 violations of labor legislation, of which 963 were related to health and safety at work. 1,880 coercive measures were applied. There are 37 issued acts for violations of the norms of the labor legislation on health and safety at work.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) is calling for safe and healthy work today, in the face of a changing climate. This is the motto of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated on April 28, reported the GIT.
The report published by the ILO states that workers who work outdoors are among the first to be exposed to the consequences of a changed climate. Compared to the general population, their exposure is for a longer period with greater intensity. The authors of the report cite excessive heat, ultraviolet radiation, extreme weather events, air pollution, the use of agrochemicals and others among the dangers. The ILO is appealing for action now to protect vulnerable workers.
