The president of the Bulgarian Boxing Federation, Krasimir Ininski, gave his assessment of the performance of the national team at the European Championship in Belgrade, Serbia. On the rest day for the competitors, he congratulated and further motivated the five Bulgarian finalists, who are about to enter the ring again on Saturday and Sunday.

“The results and the game in Belgrade can only make me happy and make me feel proud of what I have achieved. We are not done yet, there are five finals to go, but the rating is certainly very good. First of all, I am happy because 12 of our boxers entered the ring, 11 of whom won a medal. I am convinced that if it were not for Stanimira’s illness, she would have also boxed for the gold,” Ininski said.

“What I like even more is the game of our nationals. They show great growth, which is recognized by everyone here in Belgrade. None of our boxers have lost cleanly, and at the same time, our victories are decisive. Let’s not forget that this is a European championship, it’s not a random tournament, the best of the continent have come together. And we are a dominant force. It should be proudm”, added the president of BF boxing.

Bulgaria occupies a position in the top 3 in the medal ranking of the European Championship.

The Bulgarians won 11 honors out of a total of 12 possible, and five national teams reached the finals over the weekend. Under the guidance of Borislav Georgiev and Roman Tsvetkov, Zlatislava Chukanova (50 kg) and Svetlana Kamenova (57 kg) will box for gold on Saturday. Sevda Asenova (48 kg), Venelina Poptoleva (52 kg) and Aslkhan Mehmedova (63 kg) were congratulated with bronze medals among women. Stanimira Petrova, who was a favorite for the gold in the 54-kilogram category, did not enter the ring due to illness.

The men have announced three more finalists who will step into the ring on Sunday. Led by coaches Joel Arate, Valentin Poptolev and Alexander Alexandrov, Javier Ibanez (57 kg), Radoslav Rosenov (60 kg) and Rami Keuan (75 kg) will box for gold. Bronze medals were won by Ergunal Sebakhtin (48 kg), Yasen Radev (54 kg) and Yordan Morehon (+92 kg).

Thus, the Bulgarian team is third in number of awards, as well as in number of finalists in Belgrade. Only Russia and the hosts from Serbia are ahead of the national team. For the first time in history, Bulgaria won 11 medals at one European Championship, and until now there was no other case in which five Bulgarians boxed in the finals.

“We have a real team. This is the result of all the work we put in over the years, everyone in the federation – management, coaches, boxers, doctors, massage therapists, absolutely everyone. Our team shows that together and united we can achieve a lot. The big goal was precisely this – that everyone who entered the ring was a potential medalist. Let’s not concentrate on one or two, but build a team. But this is just another step on the way to the Olympic Games, where I believe we will have more than four boxers, each of whom is worthy to get on the podium,” added Krasimir Ininski on the subject.
