In the shortest possible time, we will pay the compensation to the farmers whose land was damaged by yesterday’s hailstorm in southern Bulgaria. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Ivan Kapitanov, during a meeting with farmers in one of the areas most affected by the hail – Zetivo village, Chirpan municipality. There, the corn and sunflower plantations were completely destroyed.

Nearly 1,100 rockets were fired from the test sites of the Executive Agency “Fighting Hail” yesterday in the territories of Stara Zagora, Plovdiv and Sliven regions. This was announced by the director of the agency, Eng. Valeri Tsenov.

According to him, the instructions were followed and there was no delay in the work of the employees at the sites, but supercells were formed in the clouds, which, even after treatment, were restored.

According to him, there was no shortage of missiles. In some places it had to be loaded in order not to get a pass, but the processing by the directorates was not interrupted.

Deputy Minister Ivan Kapitanov explained that the deadline for submitting applications for inspections of the affected areas is May 14, which is 10 working days from today, considering the upcoming holidays. According to him, financial resources are provided in the budget of the State Fund “Agriculture” for the payment of aid in the event of such events. “By order of the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Georgi Tahov, the commissions were formed yesterday to survey the affected areas. They will prepare the necessary investigative reports. As a matter of urgency, we will summarize the data, review the applications and immediately start paying the compensations,” he said and appealed to the mayors of municipalities to pay attention to all injured farmers to strictly submit applications within the specified period.

Deputy Minister Kapitanov explained to the farmers that in order to provide assistance, it is necessary to have 100% fall of the areas, as was the case in previous years. “These are the rules of state aid and we are obliged to comply with them. We will make an individual inspection of each farm of each farmer”, he further clarified and appealed to the mayors of municipalities to pay attention to all injured farmers to strictly submit their applications within the specified period.

The meeting was attended by over 30 farmers from the villages of Zetivo, Tsenovo, Gita, Darzhava, Svoboda and other settlements of the Chirpan Municipality.
