ODBH – Gabrovo with instructions due to the bird flu circulating in the region

--

The regional epizootic commission held a meeting in connection with the complicated epizootic situation in the region regarding the disease Influenza avium (bird flu). Dr. Svetoslav Spasov, director of the Regional Directorate “Food Safety”-Gabrovo /ODBH/, explained that the situation requires increased attention and taking specific measures.

In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the holding of bird markets and exhibitions is prohibited, and representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior will monitor compliance with the ban.

It was also decided that the ODBH would organize individual meetings with the owners of all registered poultry farms and hatcheries in the territory of the district, to whom they would be handed prescriptions.

Owners of industrial poultry farms to notify the ODBH before removing the birds from the premises in which they were reared (sale, rearing, sending for slaughter or otherwise) according to a schedule, with representatives of the ODBH to organize joint inspections with the local authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the API to comply with the provided schedules.

Owners of industrial poultry farms to carry out cleaning and disinfection of the poultry breeding room, and after carrying out the cleaning and disinfection, take samples.

The disease is spread through the droppings of the birds, their feathers, entrails, blood, in the eggshells. For protection, it is necessary to avoid direct contact with bird-contaminated objects and surfaces. Poultry meat and poultry products should be cooked at a high temperature (70°C) and long enough.

There are upcoming meetings of the municipal epizootic commissions to determine specific measures for informing citizens, mayors and deputy mayors.
