Professor Velin Stanev in “Good Morning, Day!”

Professor Velin Stanev – the iconic host of the cult show “Velin Rock Block” on Radio Plovdiv, who is also the head of the Department of “Marketing and International Economic Relations” at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences – is a guest in the column “Good morning, day!” this week to Plovdiv University “Paisiy Hilendarski”=

Professor Stanev is a teacher of communication policy, PR, advertising, mass communication, business communication. He is the head of the department.

He started his career as a radio host at Radio Plovdiv, then moved to TNN radio, where he was also program director for a certain period. His show “Velin Rock Block” has been on the air for 32 years, twenty of them on Radio Plovdiv. He is the winner of the “Plovdiv” award for journalism for his weekly author’s column in the newspaper “Plovdivski Trud”, which began in 2001 and continued until the publication’s existence. Velin Stanev’s poems were a favorite read of the newspaper’s readers, and then they became a book.

Velin Stanev starts his morning with a cup of coffee. Of course, with music. He admits to listening to an awful lot of different artists and bands and different genres. He listens to at least 60 albums a month.

“I listen because there is some thirst for discovery in me. I listen to a huge amount of music, my friends can’t believe it,” says Velin Stanev.

He believes that there are still many good performers today. Velin Stanev does not hide his excitement from his meeting with a large part of the world’s legendary singers and groups. He admits that he will never forget his meeting with his idol – Ronnie James Dio.

“Ronnie James Dio will always be in my heart because he is the first rock singer I ever consciously, rationally heard. And in Rainbow. And I said, “What a beautiful voice!” Who is this person?’, I was around 8 years old then. Then the little child, for the first time, exhibited some early form of encyclopedism. Not just to know the name of the group, but to understand what kind of people these are,” says Velin Stanev.

We also come to politics. Professor Stanev believes that the political sphere is not the most pleasant at the moment.

“It’s not even fun to watch politicians’ speeches anymore. I haven’t had fun in a long time. Rather, a bitter laugh arises in me,” says Velin Stanev bitterly.

The famous teacher admits that he never writes a perfect six because he is very demanding of himself. Rarely puts excellent and students. He wishes the listeners, if possible, would not care so much.

“Maybe we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously. We have to look at each other from the side and enjoy life”, concludes professor Velin Stanev.
