We have to tap into the emotionality of teenagers and not be too strict with them. This is what actress Alexandra Kostova said in the show “A Sunday Day on the Road” on Radio “Focus”. She played the role of Petya Monova in the film “Petya on my Petya”.

She said that the offer of the role came as a surprise to her. “The writers of the film watched “Monkey” by Dimitar Kotsev-Shosho and said to themselves: “We like this child very much for Petya Monova, but he is too small”. The producer and director of the film saw me at a production and asked me if I wanted to I am participating in a film about Petya Dubarova. The script was incredible and I was very excited, and then I was scared,” shared the actress.

She has known Petya Dubarova’s poetry since her school years thanks to her mother and sister. “When I was younger, I had no idea who Petya Dubarova was. At school I started to learn more about her. I became obsessed with her when they asked me if I wanted to participate in the film. When I started reading her diaries and getting to know her work, seeing the things she wrote at the age of 13, I became more and more surprised at how personal her poetry is. Petya Dubarova is the idealized image of the child writer, who is a genius,” she said.

Through her diaries, he managed to immerse himself to some extent in that era. “Director Alexander Kosev and screenwriters Neli Dimitrova and Valya Angelova told me a lot, but I didn’t focus only on that, since the film is still about children today. Rather, I watched Petya’s diaries and studied her as a person,” said Alexandra Kostova .

The film bears the title of a short story by Petya Dubarova. “It’s about the double personality of the writer, about who she thinks she is and who she wants to be, and what is imposed on her externally.”

About her heroine, Petya Monova says that she is very brave and that she is an idealist. “I try to be more like Petya Monova. There is an Alexandra who is brave,” admitted the actress.

According to her, there will always be a clash between generations, even though the times we live in today are very different. “There are always things to fight for as young people. The point is to recognize them and act for them,” said Alexandra Kostova.

The feedback he is getting from the audience after the release of the film is very positive. “The film was delayed because of COVID, and I didn’t know what the audience’s response would be. When it came out, there were so many positive opinions and people talking about their thoughts, about their meetings with Petya Dubarova. That was the best thing for me, that rebuffing the audience,” she shared.

He also appeared in the forthcoming film Gundy. He is currently starring in Alexander Morfov’s Life is Beautiful at the Théatro du Canal.
