Mina (Dakota Fanning) is an artist in her late 20s who gets into her car with her yellow parrot and plunges through the dark, uncharted forests of Ireland.

Very soon, however, both her phone and the car itself stop working, and Mina, lost in the shade of the trees, finds herself in the company of tormented strangers with a similar fate. They quickly familiarize her with the rules needed to survive in this particular forest…

Because bad things lurk there, as the trailer for “The Watchers” (The Watchers) – a horror film written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night Shyamalan – hints.

Watch the trailer here:

Scary, huh? Albeit with more well-worn tricks like suddenly pulling the characters into nowhere and staring into the dark and silent forest waiting for the startling sound accent.

As the trailer makes clear, Mina is far from the first to disappear into the Irish woods. The survivors he finds in their makeshift glass-walled room are already used to their unusual existence: being watched every night through the glass by the mysterious beings responsible for their disappearance.

Naturally, the young woman is the rebel who will rebel against the rules, which – we have no doubt – will cost the lives of some of the others around her.

The Watchers is based on the novel of the same name by writer AM Shine and is the debut for the daughter of M. Night Shyamalan, known for films like The Sixth Sense, Invulnerable and others, most of which are not worth mentioning .

So far, the young Shyamalan has experience as an assistant director to her father on two of his latest films, and has also worked on episodes of the series Servant, which he produced. M. Night Shyamalan also produced her big screen directorial debut.

The Watchers is scheduled to premiere on June 14, 2024.

The first trailer hints that the film has collected quite a few clichés from the work of Shyamalan Sr., but apart from that, the similarity with the series From (“Beyond”) cannot be missed, where also people get lost in the middle of nowhere, and at night they have to be safe from the creatures coming out of the darkness.

However, it is difficult for us to swallow mistakes already in the trailer of “The Watchers” – play again the scene at the beginning, in which Mina is supposedly in front of a mirror, and the camera shoots first her back, and then her reflection. It’s an old Hollywood trick, and it’s done without a mirror – Dakota Fanning is facing the camera and a stunt double is behind them, synchronizing their movements.

It would have been nice if the young Shyamalan (she’s in her early 20s) noticed the lack of sync in the scene, or at least omitted it in the trailer.

Because it is precisely such small gaps that spoil the feeling in the cinema that the story – no matter how supernatural – is “real”.

As for Ishaana’s father – M. Night Shyamalan, he too will release a new film soon. Watch the trailer for his Josh Hartnett thriller Trap here:
