Russell Crowe has found a new hobby in cinema, and that is to hunt down the Devil and cleanse the world of his destructive influence.

After the actor shone last year as the demonic priest in The Exorcist Pope, this summer Crowe returns to the underworld with his new role in The Exorcism.

The direction of the production is undertaken by Joshua John Miller – son of actor Jason Miller, who played Father Damien Karras in the cult “The Exorcist” from 1973.

The director has taken a solid amount of inspiration from the iconic horror.

The idea for the film came from Miller’s childhood, which he spent watching his father prepare for his role in The Exorcist.

“As if that wasn’t terrifying enough on its own, my dad spared me nothing but told me stories about how cursed the film really was: the set was engulfed in mysterious fires; there were strange cases of injury and even death to members of the team,” says the director of “The Exorcism”.

“The stories of the film’s curse have not left my mind since,” he adds.

In his reading of the story, Russell Crowe plays actor Anthony Miller, who is hired to star in a supernatural film.

After his first day on set, however, Crowe’s character experiences some rather strange events that suggest that the frightening story has begun to transfer into reality.

The strangeness is also witnessed by Anthony Miller’s daughter, who at first assumes that her father has relapsed into substance abuse and has begun to hallucinate.

But when he gets into his stories, he realizes that the situation is serious.

The screenplay for The Exorcism was written by Joshua John Miller and MA Fortin, with whom they collaborated on Queen of the South.

Miller told The Hollywood Reporter that the film seeks to update the theme of possession by evil forces by breaking away from the heroic man who saves the vulnerable woman.

“We want to tell how easy it is to succumb to the darkness if we don’t face our demons and fight them,” commented the director of the production.

In the film we will also see Sam Worthington (“Avatar”), Adam Goldberg (“The Protector”) and David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”).

The world premiere of “The Exorcism” is scheduled for June 7.
