She is turning 85 years old.

She was born in 1939 in the city of Kubrat, and today she is rightfully considered the most popular Bulgarian pop singer.

In her musical career, which started in the early 1960s until today, the singer has more than 35 albums and dozens of songs that became hits in Bulgaria and in the countries of the socialist bloc.

Here are some interesting facts about the life and career of Lili Ivanova:

Although her parents are not musicians, she has musical roots in her family. Her maternal grandfather and uncle played the violin, and the future star’s mother also sang, although not professionally.

As a child, Lily sang in a school choir. He also briefly attended piano courses.

Lili Ivanova trained in rhythmic gymnastics as a child, and was even successful at the state championship.

He completed his secondary education at a technical school for nurses and midwives in Varna and soon after began working in his specialty in his native Kubrat.

Her first big hit was the song “Saturday evening”.

Her first musical performances outside the borders of Bulgaria were in neighboring Romania.

In 1965, Lily Ivanova made her debut in the cinema. The singer starred in the feature film “Restless House” directed by Rangel Valchanov, in which she performed the song “Cuore” by Rita Pavone in a cabaret.

In 1975, the first biographical book about the singer was published, entitled “Our Lily”. Its authors are Ivayla Valkova and Marin Bonchev.

Lili Ivanova has 3 marriages behind her.

In 1997, the International Association of Women nominated her as one of the most famous women of the 20th century.

In 1999, Lili Ivanova was awarded the “Stara Planina” order for services to Bulgarian pop music. The order was presented by the Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov.

Lili Ivanova became the first Bulgarian star to fill the new sports hall in Sofia – “Arena Armeets” for a concert.
