Nikola Iliev, the leader of the Cone Orchestra, was unanimously declared an honorary citizen of Plovdiv by decision of the Municipal Council at the session today.

The proposal was made by councilors from various groups in the local parliament – Nikolay Gyurov, Slavcho Atanasov, Lyubomir Paunov, Kalin Milchev, Minka Sarneshka, Veselin Alexandrova, Borislav Mateev, Veselka Hristamyan, Georgi Rogachev, Dobromira Kostova, Georgi Tityukov, Vladimir Kissov, Ivaylo Dimov, Yono Chipilski, Todor Tokov, Georgi Kolev, Violeta Konstantinova, Mr. Apostolov, Simeon Petrov, Ivan Penkov, Dimitar Arnaudov, Vladimir Slavenski.


Nikola Iliev is an emblematic figure in the promotion of Thracian folk music. During his 60-year career, Iliev and his Konushen National Orchestra demonstrated extraordinary mastery and a mission to preserve our musical culture. Iliev and his colleagues have over 50 recordings in Radio Sofia and over 400 in Radio Plovdiv, there are 5 long-playing records, numerous albums on audio cassettes and CD-ROMs.

The Konushen Folk Orchestra has performed more than 5,000 concerts and is emblematic of Bulgarian culture.
