Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev changed three names for foreign minister in 16 days, and on Friday he offered himself to Rumen Radev for the turbulent post.

It is said that with the latest move, which was not known even to his closest circle, he has slightly stressed the ministers in the service cabinet.

The first name that Glavchev proposed for foreign minister was the consul from Vienna Ivaylo Tsenov, who was finally dropped from the file.

Number 2 was Stefan Dimitrov, whom he lost confidence in, and Daniel Mitov, who apparently did not gain the confidence of Rumen Radev.

On Monday, the caretaker prime minister and the president are expected to meet again to decide whether Glavchev can head the foreign ministry. However, no one knows either the time or the final names around which Glavchev and Radev reached a consensus.

“There will be no change of foreign minister. Yesterday (Friday – b.a.) we had a conversation with President Radev and I suggested that I take over the foreign ministry, Glavchev surprisingly stated from the Kozloduy NPP, where he was for the first delivery of nuclear fuel from “Westinghouse”. He explained that he is waiting for how the events will develop. I am fully responsible for the elections – whether they will be held abroad, whether they will be held in Bulgaria, it is important that we have fair elections, he explained his idea to assume the post of first diplomat.

Glavchev also stated that he maintains communication with the current Foreign Minister Stefan Dimitrov, but trust in him has been lowered and stated:

A similar argument against combining the post of prime minister with that of foreign minister appeared even when it was expected that Maria Gabriel, in addition to being prime minister, would also remain at the head of Bulgarian diplomacy.

According to experienced personnel in the external exercise of executive power is the most difficult and responsible job in a country. At the same time, the foreign policy of a country requires enormous efforts, energy, concentration and, above all, time.

“On Friday, I received this avant-garde proposal from Glavchev that he wants to be foreign minister as well. I have said many times that if he submits a person he trusts to me, I will immediately issue a decree. I advised him to study things a little more , because it seems to me that he still hasn’t figured out what exactly he is doing as prime minister, not to mention the foreign ministry,” commented the president, however.

We have many wonderful diplomats who will do the job much better than Mr. Mitov,” added Radev.

According to him, Daniel Mitov realized that as deputy chairman of the GERB party he would fall into a serious conflict of interest, since the foreign minister is directly responsible for the organization of elections abroad.

However, sources from the presidential institution shared that something strange happened on Friday – Glavchev had almost convinced Radev that Mitov would resign as Borisov’s deputy in the party, but by the time the acting prime minister reached the parliament, the young politician had already written his refusal to took the post and thus provoked, on the one hand, the anger of the acting prime minister, but on the other – Radev’s team was surprised that it was not Borisov, but Glavchev, who was in charge of the cabinet.

GERB leader Boyko Borisov also refused to comment on another deadlock.

During the weekend, Bulgarian diplomats discussed various options for getting out of the situation. If Radev is firm and refuses to replace Stefan Dimitrov, it is possible that he will be isolated from the operational management, since Glavchev does not trust the foreign minister whose replacement he requested. Therefore, they expect a team of strong names of deputy ministers to guarantee the peaceful conduct of elections abroad. They expect a similar situation if Prime Minister Glavchev takes over the position of first diplomat. Until Sunday evening, the two ladies were the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs – the former royal deputy, who spent years as a consul around the world, Maria Angelieva, and the officer Nevyana Miteva, who was a candidate for vice president of Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, who lost the elections to Rumen Radev .
