The combination of the post of prime minister and foreign minister shows that there is a shortage of diplomatic personnel. “This is not true. Prime Minister Glavchev is unable to find a solution to the complex situation with the parties in the assembly. And in relations with the president,” said President Georgi Parvanov in the program “This Morning” on bTV.

“I have no explanation why the prime minister wants to be foreign minister as well. Dimitar Glavchev, with all my respect for him, because we were opponents in politics, is not ready for such a position. I could not be foreign minister and I tell myself that. He he probably has another ambition. The appointed foreign minister, Stefan Dimitrov, is a very good professional. I know him and a host of Bulgarian diplomats who have carried out the negotiations with the European Union and NATO. The attitude towards him is, to put it mildly, offensive,” explained Parvanov.

“In any case, for the Prime Minister to also be the Minister of Foreign Affairs would show a deficit of diplomatic staff, which is certainly not true. This is not a thesis that we can accept. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev cannot find a solution in the complex situation in which is in his relations with the parties of the assembly and in his relations with the president. I do not want to put myself in the position of any acting prime minister after the changes in the Constitution”.

My active position is to help the Left, the entire left space. Many people from the left formations gathered. I cannot say what will happen to these people. I worked for a broad left-wing coalition that would be an alternative to the right-wing one, Parvanov said.

“I am in contact with colleagues and associates. This is my active position – to help, as much as I can, the left, to which I belong. It was an interesting meeting. Over 500 people gathered from all over the country – from the BSP, from the “Left” and other leftist organizations. I can’t predict what will happen to these people. It’s been 10 years since I was expelled from the BSP (Alternative for Bulgarian Revival, created by Parvanov after his departure from the BSP – note ed.), participates as part of the “Levitsa” coalition, together with “Dvizhenie 21”, “Social Democrats”, “Farmers” – a good circle of left formations. This is part of the whole left. I always wanted, and at the time we achieved it, to have a broad left coalition that would be an alternative,” said the president.

I would not return to operational politics. This is not my political era. These political means that we are experiencing on our backs are not the ones that were used in my time, Parvanov pointed out.

Even with Ivan Kostov, with whom we had irreconcilable relations in politics, our relations were legitimate. As they say in the barracks – he beat the opposition by statute. Now there is no order, so without me,” said Georgi Parvanov categorically.

“Can anyone commit to a prediction that will turn out to be true? They failed to divide the pie and that’s why the assembly dried up in such an unpleasant way. The case of customs showed that a continuous process of redistribution was going on. The struggle for the Foreign Office It started even before the collapse of the coalition. I can’t explain it based on my experience in the previous years. Perhaps they want to have one more leverage in front of their Western partners. I have no other explanations some trace,” he commented.

Of the botched rotation, he stated: It looked like they were going to be able to “split the pie.” It turned out not to be. Now the battle is for the Foreign Office. It started even before the collapse of the assembly with the claims of the previous prime minister. The parties of the assembly want to have one more lever to bring before the Euro-Atlantic partners.

We are yet to see the results of the changes in the Constitution. I suspect that the SC’s decision will not be positive towards the changes. Most will be returned, added Parvanov.

“For 10 years, I have not made an attempt to form a single official government. My ambition was not to have the executive power. Tomorrow Radev will not be in power, another will come – shall we change the Constitution again. I do not recommend an occasion to change the Constitution,” the former head of state pointed out.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, he stated that the Bulgarian position should be in favor of peace.

“Bulgaria can be a solidary ally, but within certain limits. We should not be more Catholic than the Pope. It does not suit us to be hawks, especially when it comes to a region close to ours. This solidarity can be expressed by different ways. Not in any case by sending the weapons, much less with soldiers. Let’s leave the Bulgarian position to be in favor of peace “On the second day after the start of the war in Ukraine, we held a press conference at which we announced an immediate ceasefire and quick peace negotiations. I think that this is the decision that should be supported,” explained Georgi Parvanov.

“Why should the government be without the DPS? They are an agreeable partner. I was one of the first to lend a hand to the DPS. I claim that they are a good and predictable partner in the government. A lot of things happened after that,” commented Georgi Parvanov. .

“GERB treated ABV in one way, in another way it treated the patriotic formations, in a third way they probably look now. I would not recommend the Left to enter into a coalition now with GERB. But we cannot completely write off the coalition government. With these results, there can be no coalitions. It cannot be everyone against everyone, there must be compromises. As was the case in 2005 with this triple coalition,” commented Parvanov.
