In the ranks of the Russian army, there is a special unit for the Russian elite – “Bars Cascade”, according to the latest report of UK Ministry of Defencean abstract of which is published in social network H.

The unit was created by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma for Defense Affairs Dmitry Sablin. It is primarily engaged in drone operations and is usually deployed far from the front lines in Ukraine.

The unit has been operating since October 2022 and includes at least 10 members of the United Russia party, as well as the sons of Kremlin officials. Those who have signed up are reportedly guaranteed security.

Enlisting in Bars Cascade likely allows members of Russia’s elite to sidestep a legal requirement for military service, while ensuring security and demonstrating potential loyalty to the Kremlin, the British intelligence report explained.

The article recalls the case of the blogger Elena Blinovskaya, whose husband Alexei joined the squad so that she could avoid punishment for tax evasion.

“Blinovskaya’s case is the first of its kind of a person joining the unit to help a family member avoid prison,” London’s military said.
